My work focuses on the bonds of life that are strengthened by nature, community, and spirituality. Religion and spirituality have informed the vast majority of my story, and have given me an awe and reverence for both the world around me and the heavens above. Hand-painting plants, animals, and celestial bodies is a way for me to appreciate those things in a new way. I also appreciate the irony of capturing living, finite things in a very permanent medium, and love the idea that one day it could be my work that archeologists uncover far into the future.
Creating connection between myself and a consumer through my practice is important to me as well. I think there is a sacrality that comes with routine, and almost everyone I know has a favorite mug from which to drink their morning coffee. Each person is unique in the shape, glaze, handle style, etc. they prefer, and I feel unbelievably honored to know that a mug I’ve made has become part of someone’s everyday life. Every piece I produce furthers my exploration of impermanent life intertwined with a pervasively permanent medium.
