The B.F.A. Exit Show is a right of passage for anyone graduating with an art degree at UGA. Unfortunately, my exit show was cancelled due to the 2020 Pandemic. Thankfully, I was still able to finish my work, and an online exhibition was held through Instagram for my graduating class. Hundreds of hours of time and labor have gone into this collection of work.
My B.F.A. Exit is titled The Sinner's Table. Inspired by my religious upbringing, it is a culmination of personal beliefs, acquired Biblical knowledge, and the fascinating relationship between metaphors of food and salvation in Christian texts. The imagery on each plate is drawn from Biblical illuminated manuscripts depicting the Gospel writers (called the four Evangelists) throughout history - Matthew as a winged man, Mark as a winged lion, Luke as a winged ox, and John as an eagle. The center plate is a representation of Christ as the Lamb of God, and the cups are each excerpts from Scripture where food is a palpable metaphor for the spiritual.
